July 31, 2010:  Today was our first day of practice and for me and Matt, our first time rigging a boat on our own.  We arrived at the course at 8:30 a.m.

July 30, 2010: We have finally arrived in China after our 14 hour flight.  Some were lucky enough to get a few hours of sleep, while others watched 3 of the 6 Harry Potter films (Blake).  As we were landing in Beijing, it was hard to tell that we were out of the clouds and close to the runway because of the thickness of the haze and smog in the city.  The visibility here is about 600 feet and then you cannot see anything beside a gray fog.  Not only is the air filled with smog, but it is very dense and humid as well.  As soon as we walked outside, Brad Werntz '10 sweat through about 3 shirts w

Princeton Rowers Head to China

From Thursday, July 29 to Monday, August 9 a Princeton men's 8+ will be in China where they will take part in the 2010 International University Rowing Race hosted by the Chinese Water Sports Administration.  The members of the crew are Raja Goel '12, Robin Prendes '11, Christian Klein '11, Jack Lindeman '11, Blake Parsons '11, Phil Thalheim '11, Brad Werntz '10, Carl Thunman '11, and Barrett LaChance '11.  The coach for the trip is Matt Rung and the team manager is Mike Lombardi '10.  Our crew will compete against several other boats from China, Germany, New Zealand and Great Britian at two events.  The first will be held on the Beijing Olympic course and the second will be held outside of Chengdu in Xingjin City.  The team will also have the chance to take part in several cultural activities.  Mike Lombardi '11 will be posting daily updates in the Blog Section of the Princeton Crew site.  Pictures from the trip can be found in our Pictures section on this site.  Good luck and Go Tigers!

Blog Post - July 28, 2010

July 28, 2010 - The squad that has been assembled for the trip to China has finally arrived.  Over the last two days, our rowers have been filtering in from around the country and around the world.  We have gotten in a few rows with the guys that we have had, but tomorrow morning in roughly 7 hours will be our first row as a complete boat.  This evening post practice, a departing barbeque was put on by Princeton grads Chris Courtin '10 and Brad Werntz '10.

Tiger Rowers Win Seven Medals At U23 World Championships

Rising senior Michaela Strand, who led the Princeton open crew to a silver medal at the EAWRC Championships and a bronze medal at the NCAA Championships, rounded out her medal collection with gold during the U23 World Championships, held in in Brest, Belarus. Current or former Princeton rowers won seven medals overall, including three golds.
