Tigers Overcome Weather for Strong Showing at the Chase

The Chase weekend got off to a crazy start with some very uncharacteristic weather.  On Saturday, the visiting crews all arrived into Princeton to nearly 4 inches of snow!  Thankfully, the weather passed overnight and Sunday dawned to a clear and sunny day.  With the help of over 50 members of the Carnegie Lake Rowing Association who all arrived at the BH a little before 6AM armed with their snow shovels from home, the entire BH area and docks were cleared of snow in time for the racing.  A special thanks goes out to all of those folks that helped!

Once underway, the racing went well for the Tigers.  The morning racing was all 8's.  The heavyweight men's 8+ was the first race of the day and the Tigers came away with a win of just over 7 seconds.  The Tiger 2V finished 7th overall and they were the top 2V finisher.  In the Lightweight men's 8+, the Tiger 1V finished 2nd to Harvard and the Tiger 2V finished 11th overall.  In the women's 8+, the Tiger 1V finished 2nd to Virginia and the 2V finished 5th overall.

The 4+ events and the small boats race followed the morning's 8+'s events.  The Tigers won the women's 4+ and finished 2nd in both the heavyweight and lightweight 4+ events.  The Tigers also won the men's 1x, 2x and 2- events.

All of the Tiger Freshman crews also saw their first action in Black and Orange this weekend. They started the weekend down in Philadelphia on Saturday in the snow where they raced in the Head of the Schuylkill.  Despite the weather, the Freshman Heavies finished 1st at the Schuylkill and the Freshman Lights finished 3rd.  The Heavy 2F, comprised entirely of walk-on novice athletes, also raced the Schuylkill and finished a very respectable 9th of 40 while the walk-on novice women's 8+ finished 11th of 28 in the freshman women's event.  Full Schuylkill results can be found HERE.

All of the Freshman crews raced again on Sunday in the Freshman events at the Chase.  In the Freshman men's 8+, the Tiger Heavy freshman won the race with the Tiger Light freshman finishing 2nd just behind the Heavies.  In the Novice women's 8+, the Tigers finished 3rd.

This marks the end of Princeton's fall racing schedule.  We will now move into small boats in preparation for November's Stuyve Pell '53 Intersquad Small Boats Race.
